Among its latest achievements, Yarmouk University ranked in the third place at the level of Jordanian universities, according to the Times World Classification. The university also ranked in the 61-70 category at the level of Arab universities according to the same classification, which reflects the university’s development in the field of teaching, the number of scientific research, and the number of scientific citations in the international Scopus for its faculty members in various humanitarian and scientific faculties.
Representing the president of Yarmouk University, the University’s vice president for Academic Affairs, Professor Muwaffaq al-Omoush, sponsored the Oath-taking Ceremony for the graduates of the fourth cohort at the Faculty of Pharmacy. In his speech during the ceremony, al-Omoush expressed his happiness to attend such event in the distinguished Faculty of Pharmacy, wishing the graduates the best of luck to be distinguished representatives and ambassadors of Yarmouk in the community and extending his greetings and congratulations to them as they have overcome the exceptional circumstances of the corona pandemic. He further stated that the oath-taking is a tradition practiced by all medical and professional majors, as it reflects the importance of performing certain professions with high commitment and responsibility as befits the honor of the career.
For her part, the Dean of the Faculty, Dr. Mervat al-Sous, said that this oath-taking will remain immortal in the memory of students, as they will begin their professional commitment to practice the profession and raise the status of their countries. She then explained that the ceremony inspires students to promote enlightenment, positivity, and good citizenship wherever they go, thus proving that the profession of pharmacy is a humanitarian profession that seeks to relieve the sick, the needy, and the beggar.
In her turn, student LanaOthman, gave a speech on behalf of the graduates. She said that the ceremony takes place after years of hard work and diligence through which students got taught and trained by a group of professors, thanking the Faculty administration and members for what they have provided to students during their studies. She further affirmed the graduates’ commitment to preserve Yarmouk’s national, regional, and global reputation.
As part of Yarmouk University's plan to host international students, the Language Center continues to hold Arabic language level-exams for international students within the Program of Arabic for Speakers of Other Languages .
The director of the center, Prof. Lamia Hammad, said that these exams are periodically held for international students at the beginning of each semester relying on the university's strategic plan to attract international students from various nationalities. She pointed out that 300 international students of several nationalities took the level exam of the Arabic language at the beginning of the current semester, indicating that the center's staff is keen to provide these students with a set of tips and instructions about the university, its instructions, and the course of lectures there.
Hammad pointed out that students are classified according to their results in the exam, which is designed to measure students' level in Arabic reading, writing, listening and conversation. Students who pass the exam get enrolled in the academic departments of the various faculties in which they were accepted, while those who do not pass it get enrolled in the center's courses, which are decided according to the results of the level-exams.
The anthropological team from the Department of Anthropology in the Faculty of Archeology and Anthropology at Yarmouk University, under the supervision of Dr. Abdullah al-Shurman, completed the excavation and scientific archaeological survey of the graveyards of the archaeological site of Quelba (Abella) in cooperation with the Department of Antiquities. The survey was part of a field training course for the students of the Anthropology Department at the Faculty of Archeology and Anthropology, where students were trained on the excavation and documentation methods, photography, mapping, stratigraphy, and geophysical surveying. However, the survey discovered a group of burials dating back to the late Roman period and early Byzantine period.
Yarmouk University signed a cooperation agreement with the Automation Anywhere Inc. International in the Ministry of Digital Economy and Entrepreneurship in the presence of the Minister of Digital Economy and Entrepreneurship Ahmad Hanandeh. The agreement comes as a continuation of another agreement signed in July last year between the Ministry of Digital Economy and Entrepreneurship and the Technology Strategies Middle East Company (TSME), which involved coordination for the purpose of providing training on Robotic Procedure Automation technology (RPA). Thus, under Yarmouk's agreement, which was signed by the President of the University, Prof. Islam Massad,and the Regional Director of the TSME, the representative of Automation Anywhere Inc. in Jordan, Mr. Omar Madaeen, several faculty members from the university will be trained on the technology of robotic procedures’ automation.
During thesigning ceremony, Hanandeh confirmed the importance ofusing thelatest modern technologies in theeducational system in Jordanian universities where the robotic automation of procedures represents one of the most important tools in the world ofdigital transformation andartificial intelligence, which significantly contributes tosave the time and effort of theteaching staff.
For his part, Massadexpressed Yarmouk University's keenness to strengthen its relations with various institutions and bodies to achieve its vision and deepen the skills and capabilities of its teaching and administrative human cadres, which positively influences the level of students and their educational experience in general. He further stressed theimportance of using modern technologies and employing them to serve the educational process, as made evident during the exceptional circumstances imposed by the Corona pandemic on the world.
In response, Madaeen indicated that as the youth is thefuture and wealth of thenation, the agreement contains a training and rehabilitation program for several Jordanian universities in different provinces besides a center ofexcellence in robotics that will be established at Yarmouk University. The center will train the teaching staff on therehabilitation of students concerning such modern technology to keep pace withthe global developments in digital transformation and to meet the needs of the local and regional labor market.
The signing of the agreement was attended by the Director of the Department of International Relations and Projects, Dr. Ghazi Magableh and Dr. Khaled Al-Nawasra from the Faculty of Information Technology and Computer Science as a liaison officer of the agreement.
The Dean of the Students Affairs at Yarmouk University, Dr. Muhammad Khalaf Thiabat, affirmed Yarmouk’s pride in being a destination for international students participating in the “Erasmus+” student exchange program, stressing that the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan is the right home for international students looking for safe stay, good luck, and success.
While receiving a group of international students participating in the “Erasmus Plus” program, Thiabat said that the university spares no effort for providing students with all available services and facilities to help them get involved in the university community and continue their studies easily and serve as ambassadors for Yarmouk wherever they go. He then encouraged students to take advantage of the various cultural services that the Deanship provides throughout the academic year, such as joining the university and ceramic studio as well as playing recreational games like billiards and chess.
On the sidelines of the reception, the Deanship of Students Affairs organized an introductory tour for international students showing them the various facilities of the Deanship and briefing them on the various services they provide.
In their turn, the delegation of international students, which includes 15 male and female students coming from Spain, Germany, Romania, Turkey and Belgium thanked the university for the inspirational reception and treatment, wishing the university further progress and success.
In conjunction and cooperation with the Amman Film Festival, the Film Club of the al-Hussein Bin Talal Library at the University, in cooperation with the Royal Film Commission, screened the movie“200 Meters”, which talks about the misery and oppression the Apartheid Wall causes to Palestinians in their daily lives. The movie’s theme is reflected through Mustafa, the character who lives in the West Bank 200 meters away from his wife’s house who lives with their children in Palestine. It is the Apartheid Wall that makes the access from one side to the other impossible and subject to dangers.
As the movie finished, a discussion of its subject and artistic elements followed, considering that the event took place in the library's backyard and was attended by an audience of about 170 members of university students and local community families.
As part of Yarmouk University’s celebrations of the centenary of Jordan, the university's president, Professor Islam Massad patronized the opening of Yarmouk Mathematics Conference in Differential Equations (YMC-2021), which was organized by the Department of Mathematics in the Faculty of Science via tele-visual communication technology. The conference addressed the latest research developments in the field of ordinary, partial, and fractional differential equations, their numerical solutions, modeling and their various applications in mathematics.
In the opening speech, Massad stressed the importance of holding scientific conferences and meetings to present novel research papers and exchange viewpoints on the exceptional conditions imposed by the Corona pandemic on the globe. He then stressed the importance of scientists, especially mathematicians, for the development and prosperity of communities and the establishment of green society. Urging the conference participants and organizers to keep holding such gatherings despite the many hardships experienced by countries during the pandemic, Massad declared that Yarmouk University is to offer two awards for the participants in this conference: One is for the best research paper delivered by a faculty member, and the other is for the best research paper delivered by a student.
For his part, the Dean of the Faculty of Science, Prof. Khalid al-Batayneh, confirmed that organizing the conference is part of the faculty’s plan to implement the University's strategic vision and its keenness to celebrate the centenary of Jordan. He then stated that the two announced awards reflect the university’s emphasis on promoting the scientific research. Moreover, he presented a brief overview of the Faculty of Science -its departments, programs, and degrees-, acknowledging the efforts of the conference committees that worked hard for its organization.
The head of the Mathematics Department, Dr. Mohammad al-Jamal, confirmed that the conference is one of the many scientific events organized by the Faculty to investigate the latest scientific developments and exchange experiences and scientific knowledge, indicating that the number of participants in the conference is 170 individuals representing 29 countries around the world and that the number of speakers in the conference is 108 researchers representing 20 countries with more than 100 talks.
His Highness Prince Mired bin Raad, President of the Supreme Council for the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, expressed his happiness to cooperate with Yarmouk University, emphasizing that it is one of the most reputable national academic institutions that have always been contributing to serving the sector of higher education in the Kingdom and the prosperity of the Jordanian society.
During his visit to Yarmouk University and meeting with the university president, Prof. Islam Massad,, His Highness explained that the Council seeks to increase the support for students with disabilities studying in the various faculties of the university, and provide them with required infrastructure to continue their higher education and obtain various scientific certificates. He also expressed the Council's readiness to develop a joint plan with the university regarding the rehabilitation of various facilities to serve students with disabilities.
For his part, Massad confirmed that Yarmouk University pays special attention to its students with disabilities, pointing out that there are 257 students with disabilities in the various faculties and programs of the University. He then explained that the university established a special division in the Deanship of Student Affairs in 2010 for serving this category of students. Moreover, Massad stressed that the university is keen to help students with disabilities during the admission and registration procedures as well as study by providing them with technical and logistical services that would secure their safety and facilitate their movement within the university campus as well as working to overcome the psychological, moral, social and economic problems that may hinder their academic career.
However, this meeting was attended by a number of officials from the university and the Supreme Council for the Rights of Persons with Disabilities.
