Representing the President of Yarmouk University, the University’s Vice President for Academic Affairs, Professor Mousa Rababah, sponsored the opening of the Spanish Language Cultural Day activities, which were organized by the University’s Language Center in cooperation with the Spanish Cultural Institute in Amman, Cervantes, in the presence of the Institute’s representative, Almudena Bosca.
Rababah delivered a speech in which he welcomed the attendees to the activities of this special day for teaching the Spanish language within the language packages program offered by the Language Center, stressing the importance of the Spanish language as one of the most widely spoken languages in the world and the necessity of introducing students to the International Spanish Language Proficiency Examination (DELE). He then stressed Yarmouk’s keenness to prepare its students and provide them with the skills needed for the labor market like language skills. He also pointed out that Yarmouk seeks to expand the teaching of languages required in the labor market through the language packages program that includes “Chinese, Turkish, Spanish, German, and French”.
For her part, the Director of the Language Center, Dr. Rana Kandeel, appreciated the University’s interest in the Language Center and its keenness to include language packages in the study plans of the various scientific and humanities specializations. She mentioned that the number of students registered in the Spanish language package reached 400 male and female students, stressing the Center’s keenness to support students to pass the international DELE exam in the Spanish language. She also stressed the importance of cooperation with the Cervantes Institute to accredit the Language Center as a headquarters for DELE tests in the northern region of Jordan.
In return, Bosca explained the importance of the DELE test, the procedures of applying for it, its levels, the dates of the test sessions, how to register for it, the advantages of obtaining the international test certificate, and its importance in the immigration, work, and study processes. However, during the activities of the Cultural Spanish Language Day, the students of the Spanish language package presented various cultural activities, such as poetry, dialogues in the Spanish language, Andalusian stanzas, and cultural competitions, in addition to a presentation of a group of tourist sites in Jordan.
