The President of Yarmouk University, Professor Islam Massad, discussed with the Director of the University of Sharjah in the United Arab Emirates, Dr. Hamid Majoul Al-Nuaimi, ways to strengthen academic relations, joint scientific and research visions, and serve the people of Jordan and the Emirates. Massad explained, during his meeting with Al-Nuaimi and his accompanying delegation, that Yarmouk University is looking forward to launching a spacious space for constructive cooperation with the University of Sharjah and deepening such a partnership in various educational, academic, and cultural fields.
Massad then reviewed the establishment of Yarmouk, its scientific and research journey over 47 years and the stages of development and modernization since then until today. He mentioned that Yarmouk has 16 Faculties and two deanships, one concerned with student affairs and the other with scientific research and graduate studies, indicating that Yarmouk offers 72 programs at the undergraduate level, 70 programs at the master’s level, and 16 doctoral programs. He also pointed to the pioneering role played by Yarmouk in the field of community service and its positive impact on local development and commercial activity. He also highlighted that the University includes approximately 3,233 international students from 49 countries around the world including 17 Emirati undergraduate students and three students in the postgraduate programs.
For his part, Al Nuaimi expressed his happiness for visiting Yarmouk due to its being one of the most prestigious Jordanian and Arab universities, noting that the University of Sharjah was established in 1997 and is the first and only university in the United Arab Emirates that deploys the concept of academic specialization fields. He explained that this feature is unique to the university, as it facilitates the sharing of common resources, such as laboratories and libraries, between faculties, thus allowing students with similar majors to interact and exchange experiences and challenges. Al-Naimi then mentioned that the University of Sharjah includes 14 faculties and offers 127 academic programs at the diploma, bachelor, master, and doctoral levels, stressing that this visit is very important for moving forward towards fruitful academic and scientific relations.
