Yarmouk University and the University of Helsinki in Finland signed a memorandum of understanding that aims at establishing a research link between Yarmouk represented by the Department of Geography in the Faculty of Arts, and the University of Helsinki represented by the European-Asian Experience Program (PEEX). This program is a multi-disciplinary and multi-scale research circle that aims at studying climate change, air quality, environment, and infrastructure and geospatial technologies in the continents of Europe and Asia.
Thus, the memorandum aims at enhancing research cooperation between Yarmouk and the research institutions participating in the PEEX program in terms of participating in research activities, scientific conferences, workshops, and research projects funded by international bodies. Moreover, the memorandum stipulates participation in participatory educational activities and academic and student exchange between Yarmouk and the countries participating in PEEX.
The head of the Geography Department at Yarmouk mentioned that the PEEX program involves research institutions from China, Russia, Ukraine, Armenia, Estonia, Latvia, Norway, Denmark, and Kazakhstan, in addition to Finland and that it is currently seeking to expand its research cooperation to include the Eastern Mediterranean region, including Jordan.
