Discussing Ways of Cooperation between Yarmouk and Microsoft

The Vice President of Yarmouk University for Planning, Development, Scientific Research and Quality Affairs, Professor Samer Samarah, received Laila Polman, a specialist in Minecraft from Microsoft, to discuss ways of cooperation with Microsoft, specifically the mini-company Minecraft, emphasizing the possibility of holding workshops specialized in designing and developing electronic games in cooperation with Jordan’s Gaming lab /King Abdullah II Fund for Development.

Samarah reviewed the establishment of Yarmouk, its history, faculties, and academic programs at the undergraduate and graduate levels, in addition to its scientific centers, pointing to the University’s vision and future aspirations towards expanding its faculties and scientific programs. He then pointed out that Yarmouk University is keen, according to its strategic plan and vision, to strengthen its position and academic presence with regard to international classifications and accreditation agencies like THE and QS. Moreover, Samarah stressed the importance of cooperation with a leading international company like Microsoft, as it reflects positively on the progress of the educational process at the University and opens horizons for faculty members and students in the Faculty of Information Technology and Computer Science to learn about the latest technological developments in their field of specialization.

For her part, Polman praised the long-standing reputation of Yarmouk University and the extent to which it keeps pace with scientific and global developments in the field of information technology, stressing the necessity of directing the students of the Faculty of Information Technology in Yarmouk to the world of electronic games industry. She then pointed to the extent of the development in the field of electronic games and their industry in Jordan and the passion that exists among students for learning and development, which has been shown during the activities of the Future of the e-Sports Conference held recently in the city of Aqaba.

Finally, Polman met a group of students and professors from the Faculty of Information Technology and Computer Science discussing the electronic gaming industry and how Minecraft can be used for educational purposes.
