The President of Yarmouk University, Professor Islam Massad, met with the Cultural Advisor at the Embassy of the People's Republic of China in Amman, Director of the China Cultural Center, Shi Wei, and her accompanying delegation, during her visit to the University to discuss ways of enhancing cooperation between the two sides. Massad said that Yarmouk keeps its doors open for various types of academic and cultural cooperation with universities across the world, which reflects positively on the educational and research process at the University. He then pointed out that Yarmouk has recently been able to obtain many international accreditations for a number of its programs, which contributed to raising its ranking at the local, Arab and international levels in various classification systems such as QS and Times. Moreover, Massad reviewed the establishment of Yarmouk University and the academic programs it offers, stressing the possibility of working with the Chinese embassy to build bridges of academic and cultural cooperation between Yarmouk and various Chinese universities. He then expressed the University’s interest in attracting Chinese language teachers to work at Yarmouk University as part of the language packages program offered by Yarmouk through its Language Center.
In return, Shi Wei praised the academic reputation of Yarmouk University, which has always been of the distinguished and leading universities in the region, appreciating the University’s professional hosting of 50 Chinese students studying in it. She stressed the embassy's keenness to enhance cooperation between Yarmouk and various Chinese universities by increasing student exchange opportunities and scientific visits for faculty members.
The meeting was attended by the Vice Presidents of the University, Professor Mousa Rababaha and Professor Samer Samara, the Dean of Al-Hijjawi Faculty for Engineering Technology, Dr. Mouwafaq Al-Atoum, the Dean of the Faculty of Fine Arts, Dr. Ali Rabieat, the Director of the Language Center, Dr. Rana Qandil, the Assistant Director of the China Cultural Center in Amman, Ahmed Al-Aqrabawi, and a number of officials at the university and the embassy.
As part of the visit program, the Chinese Cultural Advisor toured the University's Language Center, Al-Hijjawi Faculty for Engineering Technology, and the Faculty of Fine Arts, a tour during which the Advisor discussed with possible ways of cooperation in areas of common interest between such units and Chinese universities.
