The manager of Yarmouk FM Radio, Dr. Zuhair Al-Tahat, and Dr. Marcelle Jweinat from the Journalism Department of Yarmouk University participated in a training workshop organized by the Arab World Center for Democratic Development and Human Rights in cooperation with the German Hans Seidel Foundation on "Hatred Speech on Social Media".
Altahat attributed the increase of violence among people to the speech of hatred expressed on the internet, thus stressing the importance of facing such a trend by reconsidering issues of freedom of expression and censorship of technology platforms. He explained that the many changes in the international political climate contributed to raising the level of hatred around the world; therefore, social media should be deployed to resolve and pacify the dispute, not amplify it.
In her turn, Al-Jweinat wondered about the role played by the companies that run such platforms, calling on them to monitor their content and prevent them from violating the ethics of media and freedom, especially regarding the provocative takfiri speech.
The Acting president of YU, Prof. Muwaffaq al-Omoush confirmed that due to the exceptional circumstances experienced by the Kingdom regarding the Corona pandemic, the Computer and Information Center of the university has completed the automation of all the admission procedures for new students for the academic year 2020-2021. He explained that the new electronic procedures include the admission process, the entry of information of the new student, paying the university fees, registering for courses, getting the username and password required for distance learning, etc. The goal of such automation, as al-Omoush stated, is to maintain the safety of students and their parents and to prevent unnecessary crowding and gatherings.
Yarmouk University announces the opening of admission to the Diploma of Education in the Art of Teaching and Learning beginning the first semester 2020/2021. The Dean of the Faculty of Education, Dr. Nawwaf Shatnawi, pointed out that the program is offered by the department of curriculum and teaching methods of the faculty in response to the need of the educational field regarding rehabilitating teachers in the field of modern teaching methods.
He explained that the program includes 33 credit hours and that the study plan of the program includes courses in modern teaching strategies, teaching techniques, and methods of educational evaluation. The program, he mentioned, aims at providing learners with the skills and teaching methods they need and students can finish the course within a period of one academic year (two semesters and one summer semester).
The Acting President of Yarmouk University, Prof. Muwaffaq al-Omoush, patronized the opening of the preparatory workshop for new faculty members for the first semester 2020/2021, organized by the University's Accreditation and Quality Assurance Center. At the beginning of the meeting, al-Omoush welcomed the new faculty members participating in the workshop and congratulated them for joining Yarmouk University, calling on them to maintain the outstanding level of the university and carry out the tasks entrusted to them professionally and responsibly. He then stressed the need for the faculty members to be familiar with the regulations and laws of the university and to be fully aware of the duties assigned to them on the one hand, and their rights and benefits on the other.
In his turn, the Vice President of the Administrative Affairs, Prof. Riyad Moumani, said that the ethics of the faculty member must be considered in all aspects and at all levels whether with students, society, or scientific research. Likewise, the Director of the Center, Dr. Abdullah Khataybeh, called on participants to make the utmost efforts regarding scientific publications and to try their best to get their scientific research published in international scientific journals, as this should raise the university's ranking in the international classifications and contribute to the university's accreditation and quality assurance.
The Acting University President, Prof. Muwaffaq al-Omoush, confirmed that the results gained by model school students in the secondary school examination represent a source of pride for Yarmouk University. He explained that such an achievement is invaluable, as it testifies to the tremendous effort sought by students, their parents, and their teachers.
The school principal, Mr. Osama al-Azzam, said that honoring students reflects the attention paid by the university towards the school and its constant keenness to provide all the requirements of success to its students and staff.
In their turn, the students expressed their pride and appreciation of such a ceremony.
In collaboration with the University's Faculty of Information Technology and Computer Science, Queen Rania Center for Jordanian Studies and Community Service at Yarmouk University organized a workshop for several university staff members entitled "Zoom". The workshop included a lecture delivered by Dr. Ahmed Klaib from the Faculty of Information Technology on how to use Zoom effectively and efficiently in virtual classrooms.
Dr. Yazan Al Shabool, the Director of Queen Rania Center for Jordanian Studies and Community Service, explained that this workshop is one of a series of workshops on Zoom that are held by the center for several staff members of the university departments. He explained also that such a series of workshops is intended to enable and develop the university staff members regarding using Zoom under certain circumstances.
Calling them ambassadors of Jordan and Yarmouk University, the Acting President of Yarmouk University, Prof. Muwaffaq al-Omoush, expressed the pride of Yarmouk in all its students from Arab and foreign nationalities who study in the various faculties and academic programs of the university.
During receiving Dr. Badr Ali al-Mutairi, the head of the board of the Arab counselors and attaché, and his delegation in Amman, al-Omoush stated that Kuwaiti students studying at Yarmouk University represent a substantial part of Yarmouk community considering their academic level and active participation in the various activities and events organized by the Deanship of Student Affairs and other faculties. Al-Omoush then expressed Yarmouk University's willingness to receive more Kuwaiti students who wish to join the university's undergraduate as well as graduate programs.
In his turn, al-Mutairi expressed the Kuwaiti Cultural Mission's confidence in Yarmouk University and its academic reputation, pointing out that the presence of many Kuwaiti students in Yarmouk's various faculties embodies the Mission's belief in Yarmouk's prestigious status. He then acknowledged the attention paid by Yarmouk University to Kuwaiti students and other international students from various Arab and foreign nationalities regarding their on-campus and online education during the Corona pandemic.
Noteworthy here is that the meeting was attended by the Dean of the Faculty of Law, Dr. Yousef Obeidat, the Dean of Scientific Research and Graduate Studies, Dr. Ayman Hamouda, the Dean of the Faculty of Medicine, Dr. Khaldoun Al-Bashayrh, the Dean of Students Affairs, Dr. Mohammed Al-Mazawdeh, the Director of the Department of Admission and Registration, Mr. Khalid Al Harhasha, and the Director of the Financial Department, Mr. Omar Mahaftha.
The President of the Board of Trustees of Yarmouk University, Prof. Khalid Al-Omari, has commissioned the vice president for the academic affairs, Prof. Muwaffaq al-Omoush, to function as the university's president until appointing a president for the university.
As a representative of the University's President, Prof. Zeidan Kafafi, the vice president, Prof. Anis al-Khasawneh, patronized a seminar titled "Social Media and Its Impact on the Local Community and Refugees". The seminar, which took place at the Intercontinental Hotel, Amman, was organized by the Refugees, Displaced persons and Forced Migration Studies Center at Yarmouk University in collaboration with the Directorate of Public Security and the University of Applied Sciences of the Public Service in Bavaria, Germany.
Prof. Al-Khasawneh said: "At Yarmouk University, we believe that universities are one of the most important tools of change in society and that they are the source of inspiration and innovation. Therefore, they should play a positive role in the development of our society and the preservation and sustainability of our resources". He then added that Yarmouk University has always been interested in social media, especially regarding community issues and refugees. Also, he explained that there has been a real and tremendous scientific revolution in the field of social networks in the last two decades, which has resulted in major and profound social changes at all levels, hence the importance of such a seminar is to benefit from the pros and avoid the cons of that revolution.
The director of the Refugees, Displaced Persons and forced migration studies center, Dr. Anas Al-Subh, said that based on His Majesty's article, "communication platforms or social rivalry?" the efforts of Yarmouk University continued through the Center to promote and protect refugees and members of the host community by upgrading the services provided to citizens and refugees and taking care of its protection. Therefore, Yarmouk University, in cooperation with organizations, institutions and associations of the local community seeks to achieve the desired transition in the field of strengthening the protection of humans.
However, other speakers presented several papers on the topic, including the Dean of the Faculty of Media at Yarmouk University, Dr. Khalaf Al-Tahat, Dr. Mohammed Al-Rabaa from the Faculty of Sharia and Islamic Studies, Dr. Khair Dhiabat from the Department of Political Sciences, and Dr. Mohammed Al-Ma’abreh from the Faculty of Law at Yarmouk University.
The preparation of scientific competencies in various fields of knowledge, and the production of innovative scientific research aims to serve society by providing exemplary education in an intellectually stimulating university environment.
