The Entrepreneurship and Innovation Center at Yarmouk University implements the First National Digital Hakathon.

Among the whole Jordanian universities , the Entrepreneurship and Innovation Center at Yarmouk University concluded the activities of the First National Digital Hackathon during the university’s celebrations of the Golden Jubilee.The event was held in collaboration with Smart Summit for Training and Data Analysis.The events aimed to promote the culture of entrepreneurship, enhance students’ capabilities, and give them chances to transform their creative ideas into minimum viable products (MVPs) that might overcome serious challenges during Ramadan.

The Hackathon reflects the vision of His Majesty, King Abdullah II, to modernize the National Economic System and encourage the knowledge-based economy. It also aims at meeting the intensive commitment of His Royal Highness, the Crown Prince to empower Jordanian youth in the fields of technology and artificial intelligence as well as enabling them to be creative leaders of change in the second centennial of the Jordanian state.

During the event, Professor Malik Al-Sharayri, President of Yarmouk University, emphasized that the Hackathon represents a practical model of strategic partnership between the academic and private sectors that can be represented by Smart Summit.
In addition, he highlighted that the university seeks, through such partnerships, to move beyond the traditional framework of education towards wider horizons of innovation and entrepreneurship, with the goal of equipping the national market with practical and applicable digital solutions. He further noted that collaboration with technological partners ensures that Hackathon outcomes can meet the international and professional standards.

Dr. Muwaffaq Ayyad, Director of the Center, stated that this event represents the first fully digital national Hackathon that brings together students from Jordanian universities under a single virtual platform so that they can develop innovative solutions to societal challenges associated with Ramadan.

Dr. Ayyad emphasized that during 48 continuous hours of intensive work, 110 students, representing 11 public and private universities, were able to participate in the digital challenge.

The event began with preparatory workshops conducted via Zoom platforms, followed by “Programming and Innovation Marathon,” which focused on developing technological solutions to community challenges related to the holy month, Ramadan.The hackathon witnessed wide participations from various disciplines, including Artificial Intelligence, Pharmacy, Engineering, and Business Administration.

50 teams participated in the Hackathon, 20 from Yarmouk University, and the rest were from Al-Hussein Technical University, Applied Science Private University, Al al-Bayt University, Princess Sumaya University for Technology, Jordan University of Science and Technology, Amman Arab University, Tafila Technical University, Al-Balqa Applied University, Irbid National University, and The World Islamic Sciences and Education University.

The projects were carefully evaluated by a specialized judging committee that included a number of elite experts from pioneering academic institutions, the Crown Prince Foundation, as well as professionals from the medical and technology sectors.

10 outstanding projects reached the final stage. The best three projects were selected for the award podium.

The results were as follows:
First Place: Team PSUT – Princess Sumaya University for Technology
Second Place: Team M² – Al al-Bayt University
Third Place: The 6th Sense Team – Yarmouk University.
