Yarmouk University signed a scientific memorandum of understanding with the American CLS Health Foundation with the aim of enhancing scientific cooperation in the field of medical education. The memorandum was signed, on behalf of Yarmouk University, by its president, Professor Islam Massad, and Dr. Mahmoud Dweik, the Foundation’s vice president, on behalf of the American side. During the signing ceremony that took place at the Foundation’s headquarters in Houston, Texas, Massad reviewed the establishment of Yarmouk and its strategic plans concerning the development of academic programs that keep pace with scientific developments and the pioneering role it plays in terms of community service and communication.

Also, Massad reviewed the efforts of Yarmouk University to develop its Faculty of Medicine and keep it updated with the latest strategies for medical education and scientific research, indicating that the Faculty of Medicine is distinguished by its qualified teaching staff in all basic and clinical medical specialties. He explained that accrediting the undergraduate program, “Doctor of Medicine”, offered by the Faculty of Medicine by the World Federation for Medical Education (WFME) is a confirmation of the success of the vision and philosophy that the Faculty follows, remarking that this international accreditation allows Yarmouk medical graduates to practice the medical profession in the United States and Canada and to complete their postgraduate studies in various prestigious international institutions.

From his side, Dweik praised the steps taken by Yarmouk University to develop the medical education in Jordan, expressing the Foundation's readiness to cooperate and support such efforts through partnership in a group of purposeful scientific events and activities. This is invaluable due to the fact that the CLS Health Foundation is concerned with clinical scientific research and with providing primary health care and specialized clinics in all medical specialties and with providing distinctive training opportunities in the health sector in America under the supervision of doctors with scientific competence and medical skill.

Thus, the memorandum of cooperation includes training Yarmouk’s medical students in the specialized clinics affiliated with the Foundation, which are found in 33 locations in the United States of America under the supervision of more than 160 specialized doctors. The memorandum also involves enhancing joint research cooperation and holding specialized scientific conferences on the latest medical developments and technology.
