A delegation from Yarmouk University including the Dean of the Faculty of Medicine, Dr. Manar Al-Lawama, and the Dean of Al-Hijjawi Faculty for Engineering Technology, Dr. Mwafaq Al-Otoum, visited the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA), to discuss mechanisms for activating the student exchange agreement signed between the two universities. The delegation met with the team responsible for this agreement at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA), in addition to the academic and administrative staff of its Faculty of Medicine, which included the Vice Dean for Student Affairs, Dr. Debra Lehman, the Deputy Dean for the Global Health Program, Dr. Katie Duffel, and the Director of the Educational Program for the Internal Medicine Specialty. Dr. Lisa Skenes, the Educational Program Director of the Pediatrics Program, Dr. Alan Shin, and the Faculty Elective Training Coordinator, Alia Bakr.
During the meetings, the performance of Yarmouk University students who joined the student exchange program at the beginning of this year was discussed and reviewed, and it was agreed to increase the number of students accepted into the program in the future, in addition to discussing ways to enhance the opportunities of Yarmouk Medicine students to enroll in specialty programs at the American university. Thus, the meetings led to holding training workshops led by UCLA staff via remote video communication technology to increase the chances of Yarmouk Medicine students enrolling in specialty programs at American universities.
In the same context, the delegation met with the coordinator and members of the Arab Health Society at the University of California Los Angeles, Rana Al-Rasheed, to discuss the possibility of receiving students from Yarmouk Faculty of Medicine and facilitating their participation in the student exchange program at the University of California, Los Angeles. After this, the delegation toured the departments of the University’s Ronald Reagan Hospital with the aim of observing students’ training places.
